Call 911 and report the crash, especially on a highway. Seek medical attention even if you feel fine — adrenaline masks injuries. Photograph vehicles, the scene, and road conditions, and collect contact and insurance details and witness names.
At the Scene
In the First Days
See a doctor and follow the treatment plan. Keep every bill, record, and receipt. Report the crash to your own insurer, but avoid giving the other side's insurer a recorded statement.
What to Avoid
Do not admit fault, do not downplay your injuries, and do not post about the accident on social media. Each can be used against you under Indiana's comparative-fault rule.
Protect the Deadline
Remember Indiana's two-year statute of limitations (Ind. Code § 34-11-2-4) and the much shorter notice deadlines for government claims. A free review early on protects your rights.
